Re: Upgraded Acer 3680 Celeron CPU to a T5300!
Hi everybody.
My sister has an acer 3680-2682 with a celeron m 1.86ghz.
She used the laptop in the bed a lot of time, now the laptop won't start.
We took it to a technician who told us the motherboard was fried of overheat.
Maybe you guys can help me locate a replacement motherboard for it please.
Here is the number on the ram bay.
MBAZL06003716114F52500
Please help me get a motherboard for it.

Re: Upgraded Acer 3680 Celeron CPU to a T5300!
If you live in the UK then you can find some replacements here.
Otherwise you can find them on ebay every now and then.
There is also a Canadian site that sells refurbished ones but I cannot remember the address at the moment.
Seeing as the motherboard is dead it might be worth investing in a new laptop and I would also suggest getting a notebook cooler for when using a laptop in bed to avoid this happening again in the future.

Re: Upgraded Acer 3680 Celeron CPU to a T5300!
Well I got the new processor today (T5600). I am very happy to report that it in fact does work in a Acer Aspire 3690. I upgraded to the latest bios, v3.10.
Now the next question I used CPU-Z and I can only access 1 processor. One the front page it doesn't allow me to choose the processor. The drop down menu is not available for me to select. How do I know if both are working properly? When I do a system check it says T5600, 1.83 1.83, so I know the computer recognized them both. Is there a different program that I can use to to verify that both cores are working?
Thanks

Re: Upgraded Acer 3680 Celeron CPU to a T5300!
I see no reason why the 2nd core wouldn't be working but one way you could check is by running a wPrime 32 test and the T5600 should get around 50 seconds with 2 cores and around 90 seconds with just the single core. You can download it for free here.
I also believe Everest will show if both cores are working but I'm not at my home PC so I can't check that at the moment.
What are your idle temps like with the T5600? Notice any difference from before?

Re: Upgraded Acer 3680 Celeron CPU to a T5300!
I just ran the test and it came back at 46.283 seconds. So I guess it is working just fine. How do I find out the idle temps of each core?
Here is the next problem I have just noticed, when the computer goes to "sleep" ie close the lid for more then 10 minutes. It locks up, I have to do a hard shut down and reboot. Is there some setting that I am missing or is there something I should change. I did have this problem with my M 520 but it was a once in a great while (maybe once a month). Since I have installed the new processor, about 24 hours. It has happened about 7 or 8 times.
What should I do? What information do you guys need to help me out?
Thanks

RMClock, HWMonitor or Everest will all show you your temps.
RMClock also has the ability to undervolt your CPU if you are looking to get your temps a bit lower.
Not really sure about the sleep problem, are you using Vista or XP?

Re: Upgraded Acer 3680 Celeron CPU to a T5300!
I am using Vista Home Basic, What is happening is say when I am done using the computer, I usually just shut the lid. Now say I come back in 30 minutes to use it again. The power light is lit, but I can not get the screen to turn back on (wake up). I have tried typing key as well as touching the track pad, and mouse buttons, but it does not respond to anything. I just have to do a forced shut down by holding the power button and then restart the computer. Once it is running again, everything is fine until I let it sit and the computer "goes to sleep." Then I am back to a blank screen.
