Default Aspire 3680 - No sound in headphones / line-out... Please help

    Hello

I have searched and searched and tryed and faild, trying to solve this stupid problem...

I have an Acer Aspire 3680, in the front i have line-in, mic and headphone/spdif connections... I have sound in the inernal speakers, but when i plug in my headphones or connect it to my stereo, i cant get any sound i have cheked all settings in the realtek program, uninstalled and reinstalled several different drivers with no luck...

The only way to get sound in the headphones / stereo, is to boot the pc, when its completely booted into windows, i have to send it to stand by, then power it up again... THEN i have sound in my headphones / stereo...

Anyone got this solved or any ideas...??

    i found this:
    http://www.rm.com/Support/TechnicalA...er=SupportHome

but i only have the "auto popup dialog" option, non of the others...

    anyone...??

I don't know whether this will help you or not, but I give it a try.

I own a 5570 (I assume both 5570 & 3680 are almost identical ~ referring to my 5570 User Manual) and faced almost the same problem once. It happened after I installed a software, if I'm not mistaken it was Norton SystemWorks 2007 - can't remember it) and rather than hearing sounds from my headphone when I plugged in the jack, the sound still came out from my internal speaker. First I thought my headphone or SPDIF was faulty, but then it all went fine after I uninstalled the software (took me days to notice it was a software related problem, not hardware..damn!)

I know how frustrating to get the sounds working back for you, but I guess maybe it has something to do with some of the software you installed lately if it wasn't about the hardware. Give it a try.. who knows it might work?! Good luck mate

    tanx for your reply

i have read about a possible software related problem somewhere else, and since my pc was just reinstalled with xp, drivers, and winamp for sound, this was / is sadly not the problem... still havent found a soulution to this, but someday maybe someone will

Most such devices work the same so this may well apply to your situation. When you plug in the headphone it makes contact with a wire at the back of the jack that shorts the connection to the main speakers. This is a simple physical connection, not software that redirects the signal. If your jack is faulty then no such connection can be made. I ran into this many times with audio equipment where jacks had been damaged even through normal use. I really think this is a case for a technician who can repair or replace the jack. I don't claim to be knowledgeable about this specific Acer configuration. I do have many years in the audio industry having observed the same problem. Might point to why your software efforts have been unsucessful.

I have had this problem since August with my Acer 3680. It worked for a few days, then one day there was no sound. I have searched and searched the internet for probably a total of over 100 hours...to no avail.

I believe that I'm going to have to send it back in and go a month or so without my computer. This is a REAL problem that Acer has COMPLETELY Ignored. I'm making sure that nobody else I know buys this laptop.

I called the customer service line, and the whole time the guy was crunching potato chips on the phone, and RUNNING THROUGH THE BASICS before saying, "you gotta send it in."

I've even tried the stand by trick, but I think I'm doing it wrong. Any help appreciated.

The standby option works for me however I have to leave it on standby until the damn thing cools down. I usually sleep overnight then turn it on in the morning with the headphones plugged in. Then it works!
