Re: Dell U2211H Review- The "E" Economy IPS
17 inch Dell I take it is a CRT? I know that initially black levels are not as deep on a CRT that is turned off...just sayin...its more grayish then black...turn it on with a black background and then show the results

Re: Dell U2211H Review- The "E" Economy IPS
I placed a replacement order last week because of a failed USB hub.
Got home used the replacement U2211H from Dell:
1. Same problem occurs with the USB hub on two different computers.
2. The stand is considerably less firm then my original.
3. The replacement panel has a bright pixel in the middle of the screen... Incredibly obvious. I hadn't even begun to check for dead pixels either, I was testing the black contrast/other color issues as well as the original USB hub problem.
3. Had worse backlight bleeding.
Next step for me is to return the replacement monitor and not get another replacement. I really don't see the hassle worth it anymore, I'll just buy a USB hub for like $10 on newegg.
Overall this is how I rate Dell on customer support:
Categories are friendliness and willingness to help.
Friendliness and willingness to help: 4/5 I really appreciated the fact they didn't try to bully you into taking many steps to "fix" the problem and took your word for it that you've tested the product.
Ease of RMA: 5/5 The RMA was very easy took less then one hour, and the replacement part was put on order that very day. No problems given, no questions really raised.
Quality of replacement monitor: 1/5 The backlight bleeding is heavy, even visible in a well lit room. Bright pixel in the middle (while fixable) is annoying and not worth it for me to fix.
Overall I decided to just live with it and keep my original monitor which has very minor backlight bleeding, and no bright pixels. Oh and a more sturdy stand. Also for the price I paid, I feel guilty RMA-ing such a great monitor for something so small yet under lyingly so important. Anyways I would still consider Dell for a future monitor.

Re: Dell U2211H Review- The "E" Economy IPS
In my experiences USB hubs on monitors don't work due to them not being powered or something... Half of my cheap jump drives work on any peripheral port whereas my main (faster) USB drive isn't even recognized.
What was the specific problem you had with it?M17x Nebula Red | 820QM Quad Core| HD 5870 CrossfireX 2GB | 8GB RAM @1333MHz | 1TB RAID0 @7200rpm | RGB LED (1200p)

Re: Dell U2211H Review- The "E" Economy IPS
The problem was the 4 usb ports would cause the device connected to freeze momentarily every 10~ minutes. I've ran into hubs like this, it's because of bad design. The 2nd Replacement monitor confirmed this since it too suffered from the USB hub problem. Right now I am using an older logitech hub, and it's working fine.
The usb ports on the monitor are powered by the monitor's power supply (2.5w each port so far I'ved tested a USB powered notebook cooler with a 3W fan (CM Infinite) and confirmed the monitor's USB port have power.
You know now that I think about it... it may be chipset/driver related although I haven't ran into that type of problem since Windows XP
. Once I cross this out I will be certain it's just bad design.
