Hey I was wondering what cooler would be best for an Acer Aspire 6920. I'm hoping for one that's cheapish, but effective and not likely to scratch the computer or desk in any way.

    1) Budget

around $30 USD preferrably, but willing to go up to around 40

    2) Is noise an issue for you? Are you annoyed but noticeable noise?

Noise is not an issue unless it's the clicky kind, or it drowns out the sound coming from my speakers, which tend to be at around 25% max volume.

    3) Post a picture of the under side of your notebook along with basic measurements like shown earlier in this guide. (just link to a previous post if your notebook has been posted before)

This was posted in one of the Acer section posts by TehSuigi =x

    4) Do you have a color preference?

    Preferrably black or silver

    5) Any brands you would like to avoid?

Generic brands, and ones that will likely kill me or scratch my computer

I would recommend the X2 > the U2 for the M860TU if you do not care about noise, an important note is to keep your room close to 21 C if you can, I find any higher and both these coolers start to be ineffective. If you go with the X2 find some extra rubber feet to put on the cooler as the ones on the M860tu slide on the cooler.
    it's ok....I'm not in a rush anyway.
    thanks for u'r suggestion.
then I'll wait for the next arrival of X2

but I'm wondering, why wouldn't u suggest me to take notepal infinte?
does the X2 perform better than infinite??
(well, since I've found good story about notepal infinite)

You have a vent under your HDD so any cooler that can hit it would be great. I recommend the Cooler master Notepal U2 with 2 fans (there is a no fan version as well). One fan on the HDD area the other under the fan. One tip with the U2 is to lift the front up as much as the back, the CFM more than doubles instantly.

Ironically once again, I think the U2 would be the best suited for your needs as you can remove the fans after you chose their locations. After you remove them you can slide your notebook in under the cooler, use the provided elastic and bang your notebook is protected and its portable.

Is there any where or any component that tends to over heat over another?

The airflow is different between the two and I think the X2 will be more effective.

It can depending on your cooling system, if you can directly hit a component through a vent it may help though in some cases it doesnt match.

Just want to make sure, the NotePal U2 it blows air up towards the notebook? because my machine has a vent on the side to blow the hot air out.
I also forgot to mention that the temperature in my room is a lot hotter than normal (I haven't measured its temperature but there is a difference from other rooms in the house), will this have a big impact on the effectiveness of the cooler?

Yes the cooler blows air upwards. Room temperature will make a difference on cooler effectiveness. Fans have a harder time blowing warmer air than cool. Clearly the higher the room temp the higher your notebook temps.

doesn't u2 come with attachable fans? are they not able to go anywhere behind the stand? (I thought you could screw it on whereever you needed it?)

I have a sager np2096 so unless one fan is off to the side I dont think it's going to cool my graphics card (the top right vent)?

More likely than not, the parts that heat up the most are the GPU and the CPU areas. As of now, I'm not exactly sure since I recently got the computer and haven't actually tried anything intensive yet.

I am guessing the end of august but I can confirm on Monday if you would like.

Yes the U2 comes with two adjustable fans, they use a clip mechanism. Adjustable fans does not mean "perfection" per say. If the fan can hit the fan/finned heatsink then or a direct component then fans in specific areas should be better than spread out heat.
