Re: Notebook Coolers : A Buyers Guide | UPDATED
Hi all - looking for a laptop cooler for an older model Dell XPS M170 (this laptop is such a trooper), an ASUS A8JS, and an alternative to the Zalman NC2000 for my NP8660. Here is my FAQ:
1) Budget - up to $100 per cooler (preferably no more than $50, but will go up for the right cooler)
2) Is noise an issue for you? Are you annoyed by noticeable noise? No
3) Post a picture of the under side of your notebook along with basic measurements like shown earlier in this guide. (just link to a previous post if your notebook has been posted before)

4) Do you have a color preference? nothing red or neon
5) Any brands you would like to avoid? Nope
Thanks!!

Re: Notebook Coolers : A Buyers Guide | UPDATED
Looking for a notebook cooler for my hp dv5t however i use my laptop on my lap / laying down in bed and need something with the bottom guarded. I cant have a fan spinning on my legs. Is the Cooler Master Infinite the best option that has the style with the bottom covered?

It should do, just slide the notebook low on to the cooler until the CPU (you marked as GPU) vent is hit.
It is an option but your notebook is a bit wide for it and you will not be able to have parts of the sides covered. It is usually recommended for non gamers by some people but for 30$ it should work
For the Dell I would recommend making a custom cooler, 3 fans, one on each vent or even less. The vents are quite separated and small so it should be very effective
Asus 14" could be either an Zalman NC1000 or Enermax Aeolus
The NZXT Cryo LX should be awesome with your NP8660
It is probably the best option though not the greatest at cooling it is the best for soft surface useNotebookReview.com | Super Moderator

Xigmatek D721 - just ordered one

It would be used with my XPS M1330 now that I am
- out of warranty
- just had motherboard replaced
- just done copper mod!
I'm quoted 2-3 delivery on this thing; I'll check in when it arrives and give some feedback. For reference, at idle, I seem to see about 40 (103) degrees on CPU and 54 (129) on GPU (with copper mod). HDD tends to be 40-43 (103-109).
Reason for choice - it's the best-priced, most reasonable side-vented cooler; my XPS spends a lot of time on the flat back of my sofa!!

Thank you for the second input, guess I'll have to do some deliberation on which cooler to buy.

Thank you for answering.
I went to some stores today but didnt find it.
But I do see the Notepal Infinite. Ask the guy to turn it on to hear the noise and feel the air flow. The noise is not that much some guys reported here. But the air flow was a really disappointment. Then, comparing the rpm in all this models, aeflux, notepal, zalman, I realize that I'll never get what I want, or I had imagined.
It's very hot here, more than 30º C in the middle of the day. I need more flow...

My cooler master note pal has stopped working :-(
I've tried using the mini usb wire form my graphics tablet and it still doesn't turn on.
The new one has 4 usb ports on the back so I think I'll order that one, I love the fan intake placement on the back as I use my laptop on my sofa, bed or on the table too. I just hope that the new version is more durable.

Re: Notebook Coolers : A Buyers Guide | UPDATED
Hi! Great guide! I bought my Toshiba Satellite A215-S5837 (15.4") during June 2008. Recently, my laptop's fans have been working quite hard, and humming loudly. The other day it was on for over 2 minutes at a time! When I first bought it, it usually spins for 10 seconds and then a 30 second interval before it spins again. It's probably the dust, but I don't know how to open my laptop up to clean it. I don't want to try either, too risky. I was hoping a notebook cooler could help this. Would a notebook cooler allow my fans to work less?
1) Budget
-Hoping to spend under $70, but if needed, I have $115 in my Paypal.
2) Is noise an issue for you? Are you annoyed but noticeable noise?
-Kind of. Noise is pretty much the reason I want a cooler.
3) Post a picture of the under side of your notebook along with basic measurements like shown earlier in this guide. (just link to a previous post if your notebook has been posted before)

4) Do you have a color preference?
Any color would do, but if it was silver/black, that would be nice.
5) Any brands you would like to avoid?
Nope!
I was considering the NC1000 or NC2000, but I'm not sure if it will blow into the intake vent (the circular vent towards the back of the laptop). What cooler would you recommend (doesn't need to be NC1000 or NC2000, any that will fit my laptop's vents and fix my overworking fan problem)?
Thanks!
