Best compact external speakers for notebook?
I'm looking to get external speakers for my notebook and am looking for a compact solution that can deliver good sound quality. I have a 5 piece set on my Dimension that does an amazing job, but for the notebook I'm looking for something without wires left and right, and without the big bass box.
Any recommendation on the right balance of minimal cabling/#speakers/space taken on the desk while delivering good sound?
Thanks!

Re: Best compact external speakers for notebook?
I have a pair of Logitech V20 speakers that really crank out some high quality volume for a single USB power/dataconnection. Price is reasonable at $50-$55
They are moderately luggable and have their own case. I used to have a set of V10's. Pass them up, they are a poor choice.
Currently using:
MacBook Air 13" mid 2012 2 GHz Core i7 8GB 512 GB SSD Mountain Lion & Windows 7 via Parallels
MacBook Air 13" mid 2011 1.8GHz Core i7 4GB 256 GB SSD Lion & Ubuntu Linux via Fusion
MacBook Air 11.6" late 2010 1.6 GHZ, 320M, 4GB 180 GB SSD Upgraded OWC), OS X Lion

Re: Best compact external speakers for notebook?
I use Logitech V20's because they:
- Have decent bass (When on a flat, hard surface especially)
- Plug in through USB (USB Powered, decent sound card built in)
- Have media controls on top
- Come in a cool zip-up travel case.
- Aren't too expensive .
Check the review here.
They are very impressive portable speakers, the sound can fill my (small) studio apartment, and is punchy without being 'boomy'. The other cool thing is becasue they have a built in USB interface, you can use them with any laptop or PC and instantly improve the sound quality.

Re: Best compact external speakers for notebook?
I just grabbed some v20's off ebay for 15$ they are open box but have a warranty and are tested 100% so that is an option too if you think 50$ is too steep. I will let everybody know how they are when I get them.

Re: Best compact external speakers for notebook?
They are great, however when I took them apart you must know that there "woofer" is just a passive woofer meaning its movied by the air pressure from the midranger. They still have good bass, but its not a true woofer and that sort of upset me (and for some reason I swear one speaker produces more bass than the other and thats why I took them apart)
worth every penny tho for sure at the price I got them at, I don't think I would spend 50$ on them tho, 35-40$ seems about right for a new set.
