small power supply for a compact set up.

in the search for something that would sit nicely on my desk next to my computer i had to think small. that has led me to use a 300 watt 1U server supply. the 1I has the dimensions of 4" tall 8" long and 1 1/2 " wide. this is the perfect size to use in a small self made case of a small aluminium stand as i have done.

the metal was purchased at a local home depot and steel putty was used to hold it together. i was lucky to find the power supply at a local goodwill computer store for 10 dollars.

This power supply has a switch to turn the power on and off so you could use the paper clip trick to keep it powered or use the switch from HWtools. I have a switch attached to the 20pin connector.

as you can see the power supply is almost the exact same size as the card. i also have a 8800gt that i am using for testing and it is the same size as the card.

this is a great high power output option for any card that needs up to 300watt power for the card. newegg sells a 460watt power supply for 80 dollars.not the cheapest but for a watt to size ratio the 1U is the way to go.
